Instructions on how to get your own Skype account

Sign up with Skype.com by downloading their free software from the Internet.
http://www.skype.com

Create a user name:
Might be best to use the name you are using here on Americymru so people will know who to call.

Type this in your Internet Browser:
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/skype

In the Widget Settings box:
Type in your user name ONLY (don't change the other info)

Click on Get Widget within the Widget Settings box

A Widget box will open and then at the bottom of that box there is a square green box with a white arrow. Click on the white arrow where it reads "More"

Click on the Green box that reads "Ning"

Copy that embed code and then copy/paste it into your Profile page in your Widget box and then click on SAVE at the bottom of your Widget box.

The two icons "I'm online" (or "I'm offline) and the other "get widget" should appear after you click on SAVE. Be sure to refresh your page and then check it again if it doesn't appear right away.

If you have any problems getting the code to appear on your page, Ceri said that he will do it for you.

Hi Mark,

Yes, Ashley is very helpful with technical issues. He has helped me a lot this past month. I've practiced speaking Welsh several times already with Jonathan Simcock on Skype. He is very knowledgeable and has a wonderful group that gets together to practice Welsh all the time. You are in very good company if you are associated with either of them.

Tam,
I have Skype working, with Ashley's help. I also had a conversation with a man from Derby, Jonathan Simcock, who kindly stopped what he was doing to tell me where to find some free learning resources.

I use the Logitech Quick Cam Pro 9000 video cam that has a built in microphone. It has worked very well and the image is very clear.

of course especially for the PSP 2000 you will have to buy the Skype headset w/ remote which also works with the PSP 3000 even though the 3000 has a built in mic. The audio system on the PSP I have never been fond of.

If you have a PSP 2000 or PSP 3000 you also have skype functionality built in. The PSP 3000 has a built in Mic which makes it easier to receive & make calls.

One has to do a little stepping to get Skype installed on Linux, at least on Debian/GNU-based distros. Here is how I did it.

I am using Ubuntu Linux (Debian-based)

agentbuzz@mail:~$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep model.name | uniq -c
4 model name : AMD Phenom(tm) 9850 Quad-Core Processor

agentbuzz@mail:~$ uname -v
#42-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 17 02:45:36 UTC 2009

agentbuzz@mail:~$ sudo apt-get install ia32-libs lib32asound2 libasound2-plugins

agentbuzz@mail:~$ wget -O skype-install.deb http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-linux-ubuntu-amd64

agentbuzz@mail:~$ sudo dpkg -i skype-install.deb

agentbuzz@mail:~$ sudo dpkg -i getlibs-all.deb

agentbuzz@mail:~$ sudo getlibs -p libqtcore4 libqtgui4 bluez-alsa

Now I need somebody to test with!
