About Me:
Visionary artist & illustrator and writer, Heathen/Vanatru, vegetarian. My Welsh ancestors were primarily from Brecon area, including the Games family. Former UK Resident in Cymru..and still go back and forth annually to paint and play with friends. Proud mother of a lovely son ( whose late father was an Evans from South Dakota!). He spent Summer 2008 playing bass with FIRST TO DIE Metal band in Amlwch, Ynys Mon, and venues around Wales and the Borders. His Arizona-based Death Metal band BULLSEYE MASSACRE is already planning a tour of Cymru and England in late 2009. Green, wet, granite-cragged Cymru is bonemarrow-deep in me; the land and people rekindled my spirit years ago... and now my hiraeth is like the Teifi..... an endless spate. Inspired paintings evoking our ancestors, old Gods and sacred landscapes -- please visit my site. Hwyl! xox

Hey Gaz!

So great to hear from you, man! Are you from Mon, then? Thanks for adding me to your friends and sharing such a sweet note about our Mam Cymru. It means a lot, and I appreciate your time.
Yes...those mists, shingled and sandy shorelines, drifts of sun-beached limpet shells tangled in seawrack , kelp and dulse ... under the gaze of lazy sheep and ancient stones. What's not to love, eh? :)
You and your clan are lovely-looking folks...and those eyes they all have...especially the kiddies. You are a proud Da, I know. And you in uniform...smashing example of Welsh manliness! Diawn, bach ! ;)
Is that a Gurkha soldier in the one photo? I met many when living in Wiltshire for two years ..visits with a friend to Aldershot...and getting called Memsahib! (for an American, it was right out of a film or novel...)
Almost as sweet as being called Petal by Brums!

Hey Gaz.. please write whenever the urge strikes. I'll be resizing pix of our recent Ynys Mon reunion and posting them here. I probabaly have met folks you know. We'll discuss it, ok?
your new ally and kinswoman...

Hey Amber, great to hear you enjoyed your time on my island. More magical than usual in the change of seasons that place. Those mists. Its a spiritual place there's no denying. I live 30 miles up the coast now in a place called Colwyn Bay, referred to sadly as Liverpool beach! I might as well be on the mountains of the moon girl. Thats how parochial us island boys are. And they call it the island of strong men. Ye right. Im so hiraethog my running routes have to take in views of the island, so I train around the Orme and Conwy mountain so that I can see Gods island when Im sweating. My son still there and I will go back when the time is right. But my new family are all settled here now.
Tell me about you trip? Where did you go, who did you meet and what did you do? Id probably know people you met, probably related to them!
Hwyl,
Gaz

awesome landscapes around the Beacons ... some of my Welsh ancestors in Maryland came from Llanhamlach-NewtonFarm area just east of Brecon driving toward Abergavenny. Do you know the romantic B&B on the Usk near there...Millbrook Mill? The owners are friends..consider a sweethearts stay...right on the river, literally. Super base for the whole area.
My son and I lived in for over a year in Penrherber between Cwm Cych and Newcastle Emlyn, then a month in Newport PEMBS--and finally years in a long let flat in the huge country manorhouse of Penty Parc near Clarbeston Road, north of Haverfordwest. All very bohemian tenants. ;)
I still have close mates from Treorchi and Narberth to Amlwch, Ynys Mon. I hope you can return soon! :)

A paradise found. :)

Thanks for your kind words. The pic was taken at the trig point on the top of Fan Nedd in the Brecon Beacons. I believe we walked from Ystradfellte across Fan Nedd and Fan Ghyrich and down the valley towards Dan yr Ogof before crossing the moors back to Ystrad on that day. A total of about 21 miles. The circuit is described in the John and Anne Nuttall guide to walking the mountains of Wales. I must post more details on here some time about both the book and that particular walk.

Hwyl am nawr

Yeah I know all about hiraeth. I havent been back for seven years ...though I'm hoping to go back with my girlfriend next year. I'm originally from Cardiff but I visted Ynys Mon a couple of times on vacation when I was a kid. Loved Beaumaris Castle....one of the finest of the Edwardian symbols of oppression....lol. I will certainly check out your website. Once again....Croeso i Americymru.
