About Me:
I am a jewelry designer from Northwest New Jersey. I specialize in hancrafted jewelry and have developed a Celtic line which includes Welsh Dragon pieces. For most of my life, I have been surrounded by all things Welsh through attending and playing roadie for my mother's Welsh Folk Concerts, listening to my Stepfather's stories of his Rugby and childhood days in Wales, and enjoying my grandmother's Welsh Castle Paintings. My most direct Welsh connection, though, is my mother, Jodee James, who is also a member of this site.

A little about me

I realize as I start to think more and more about these upcoming book reviews that maybe I should give a little more information about myself before I start.

I live in northwestern New Jersey near Pennsylvania where I also own a small handcrafted jewelry shop. I grew up in central NJ, but have lived in many NJ towns as well as in PA and Florida. For nearly ten years I worked as a high school English teacher in both NJ and FL teaching all sorts of English curriculum subjects - World Lit, America… Continue

Book Reviews

This week I agreed to start working on some book reviews to add to Americymru.
I have yet to start those reviews, but have decided first to compile my personal book list of books I've read recently which in some way refer to, include, or are set in Wales, factual or fictional. I wanted to mention that I have not gone looking for books relating to Wales, but instead that the books I am listing and will eventually write about have just happened to be about Wales in some way when I've read them. Th… Continue

Looks like I not only missed greeting your mum, but missed greeting you too, so I will correct that oversight by doing it now: Hail and well met! Welcome to Americymru, soon to be your favorite website! Hopefully :-) Check out the various interest groups, and the videos and music... wonderful stuff. And there are a lot of nice people here too. Hope you like what you find! Blessings to you this day.

Hi Becki,

How close are you to New York?? I would highly recommend you to go and see this:

Jon Langford & the Burlington Welsh Male Chorus
Wednesday September 17, 09:30pm
Knitting Factory
74 Leonard Street
New York, NY 10013
www.ticketmaster.com/artist/1237875

Langford is the former drummer of the late 70's punk band 'The Mekons', but has lived in Chicago since the early 90's where he formed the successful Chicago bands the 'Waco Bros', 'The Pine Valley Cosmonauts' and the kids band 'Wee Hairy Beasties'. Langford has also been a regular contributor to the NPR radio show 'This American Life' and was a host for many years on Chicago's radio XRT.

Langford leads the mainly expatriate Burlington Welsh Male Chorus in Tom Jones covers, tracks from his own CD's, as well as some classic Welsh songs. This mixture of songs has worked really well and has drawn in large and diverse audiences in Chicago and Toronto.

If you have a chance to get out and see this I highly recommend that you do so. This isn't your usual male voice choir fare, it is something a bit different.

Sorry it took me so long to get it copied and mailed--it went to Canada with me last week and back, so I was determined to mail it before I left for Chicago and NAFOW! I included the older issue so you'd have a subscription form if you wanted it. I'll be in Baltimore in mid-October and if I make it to NJ, I'll stop by! Mona

Diolch yn fawr....I will look forward to reading them...we get press releases from Y Lolfa but no review copies as yet...as the membership and page impressions grow we should find ourselves in a position to request those soon.

Diolch....please do...that group isnt very active at the moment and I'd like to develop it. Meanwhile if you feel like writing any short ( or long ) review pieces on relevant titles that you have read please feel free. They could be presented on your blog page and in a text box on the group page. We are very keen to help develop a mass market for Welsh writers and all authors writing on the subject of Wales.
