It's Complicated
About Me:
My Heritage:
1/4 Irish
1/4 English, French and German
2/4 Greek

My dad is a Jersey boy and my mother is a Greek migrant to the US. I have traveled Greece extensively over my life (which I realise is young), visiting almost every summer of my childhood -for family or otherwise- and we own a "summer house" complex in Halkidiki. Welsh will be my third language, the first, naturally, being English and the second Greek. My European content includes travels to Germany, Holland, France and Italy. I have never been to the Celtic North, but I do wish to do so, and soon.

What I find ironic about my heritage is this: Celtic comes from the Greek word Keltois, meaning the "hidden people".... I'm Greek & Celtic... Interesting, no?

What is your interest in or connection to Wales?
I am, unfortunately, not Welsh, and have yet to visit Wales. But, my interest runs deep. My plan is to go to university in Wales, finish learning the language, and get a PhD in Welsh & English Medieval History. Then I'll be a teacher..... And live there. (I dream big) Also, if anyone can help me AT ALL, I am teaching myself Welsh, and its hard to do considering I've never met anyone in real life who speaks the language. References are always a big help!!!

Helo, Christina!

I noticed that the "yours sincerely / yours faithfully" request I got from Ceri a while back made its way to your comments box here.

Remember that Grwp y Gymraeg has a phrase-request feature for times like these! In fact, I think you'd have found the answer there in any case.

Have a look around "Grwp y Gymraeg" - you might find some more useful stuff! And if you fancy adding anything - feel free!

Hwyl am y tro,

Last time I was in Athens, I was 11 years old. We visited the Acropolis, of course, much plainer then than it is now, as I understand. New heritage center or something like that; great resource for tourists but alters the sense of entering history. I missed seeing Tintern Abbey before its heritage center was built by one year. Wish I had seen it before the alteration, and then again after. Same issue, good resource, but too obtrusive.

Yn siarad am Athen (no -s in Welsh!), while you're in PA you might want to check out Bryn Athyn Cathedral (it's about as full-fledged a medieval-type cathedral as you'll find in the U.S., huge, a product of, I think, the booming 20s. It's Swedenborgian. Abt an hour outside Philly. Not quite sure how you'd arrange a trip w/out a car, but I'm sure they have a website. Interestingly, "Athyn" isn't actually the regular Welsh for "Athens," though it
certainly evokes it.

Just wanted to check also if you were able to do the PayPal payment It really does help keep the group running smoothly. Pob hwyl. - R

I'll try to schedule something around that time, and then if you can, come so much the better. Of course, a "taith" to Athens sounds "neis" too. Best - R

That would be quite something if you could attend something in Philly. Are there specific dates you'll be here (for some other event as well?). If so, and you let me know the dates, I could try to schedule something. I'll be doing a seminar on the Welsh Tract settlement on Oct. 10 and was thinking of doing a Meetup later that afternoon. Perhaps that would be of interest. Hwy - R

More "Yours sincerely" or "Yours faithfully". It's pretty formal. But I had to check with someone. My Welsh is not all that good.
