Loved watching your tidal wales video. I used to live in Menai Bridge, where I live there is very little tide!! I live in central Ontario, on Lake Simcoe. Lake Simcoe is too small for any tide, some of the great lakes do have a slight tide. When I m…

Hiya,

Go to http://www.setanta.com/ca/TV-Listings/Venue-Finder2/ to find pubs that are showing it near you.

Setanta is a bugger, they charge the pubs down here $6,000 for the rights to show the games, plus they charge $20 on the door for us to get in!! Only 4 or 5 pubs in Chicago still bother to show the games, our favorite pub has stopped altogether:(

Thank you, any ideas would be so welcome! I'm still waiting for the 1911 census for Angelsey to be ready for viewing.

Thanks again!

Hi Christine:
Seems we have alot in common. My grandmother was from Birkenhead before she married my Welsh grandfather...who I never met as he died young in New York City. Thank you for your offer and I would love it. I had been in touch with I believe the town clerk in Angelesey, who weren't able to turn up much, except some property ownership.

Are your photos of Wales? Love the ocean ones with the lighthouse. I thoroughly enjoyed my few hours in Bangor and dream of going back for just a genealogy trip.

Thanks, Bev

My grandfather, David Owen Hughes's parents were Hugh Edward Hughes (born 1861) who married a widow with a little boy. The widow, Margaret Ann Owen Williams, was born in 1861 in Pembrook, Angelsey to David and Elizabeth Owen who I have found information on.

It is Margaret's first husband that I haven't been able to find much on, not even a first name. Her little boy was Thomas, born in 1882 in Bangor. Not sure if her husband was deceased at this time yet. But she married my great grandfather shortly afterwards on March 13, 1884 and I guess he adopted her son. It's Hugh and Margarets
children, including my grandfather that I am having trouble finding anything on until my grandfather appeared in New York City around 1915. Hugh and Margaret had a few more children, Hugh and William Ernest. I have no idea where Hugh the father died or when, nor do I know where Margaret is buried or died. I would assume probably near their parish. Hugh's father was also a Hugh and was a sailor. On the marriage record of Hugh and MArgaret it states that he is deceased (died young) It's all so confusing.

We visited the Gwynnd (?) town clerk a few years ago and she was able to provide a bunch of information but time limited, as was her's so we never finished. I'm sure Bangor holds a ton of secrets for me, just not sure how to unfold them. If you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Sometimes knowing the area, helps with the resources.

wow, that gives me goosebumps. They have been an elusive family for me and I've been researching them for years now. My grandfather's family lived at 59 Ambrose Street, right up there on the right. The house wasn't there anymore when we were there a few years ago. They later lived at 33 West End in Bangor. Where you born and raised in Bangor? How did you end up in Canada?
