Did you see he SAS Camp. You just go up the Brecon road and turn right after the Garden Centre.

Also there is the Map of Mundi in the Cathedral. The oldest Map of the World. Paul Getty gave the Cathedral £10M a few years ago. So they didn't have to sell it to restore the Cathedral.

On the Map Hereford is in Wales as it was unitl the 14th Century when Henry (8th) Tudor cronies chopped things up for themselves.

His great Grandfaher (Owen Tudor)was executed in High Town there is a plaque there, its outside Marks & Spenser on the paving -Owen Tudor tried to throw out the Norman King, failed and was executed there..

Then his grandson Henry Tudor overcame the Normans at Bosworth Field.( Shakespears Play Richard 3rd - "A Horse a Horse a Kingdom for my Horse". He was demounted and slain.

So began the Tudor Dynasty.

Odd how Herefordshire was lost as was all the land west of the Severn & Dee to England, then. Polatics I guess. Nothing changes!! Henrt 8th had a lot of very corrupt guys working for him. Thus all those Queens. Did he have 8 wives!!

The site if Owen Tudor's execution in Hereford marked the outset of the Tudors Dynasty which lead eventually to Elizabeth 1st establishing Britain as World power then the Empire / USA etc.

So the Hereford Square is quuite a place - though few realise it.

The battle when Owen Tudor was caught (then executed on the Hereford Square) is set out in the Library opposite the Catheral. The present Queen Elizabeth 2nd said that she principally sees her family as a Tudor family

The Normans took 2 years to conquer England, 215 to conquer Wales. Eventally the King went bankrupt building those huge castles in North Wales. Wales has more castles per square mile then any country in the world, due to this. 150 years later they, apart from Pembroke Castle, had all been destroyed by Owain Glyndower.

The Normans had two Wales. The Marches like Herefordshire, Glamorgansire, Pembrokeshire etc. Where although still in Wales Norman laws applied. Then "Welsh Wales" like North Wales where Welsh Princes and Welsh Laws applied. Then along came the Tudors and a third was lost by "paper transactions" without so much as a questiion

Hope thats of interest

All the Best

Owen

Price was a popular name in Cynhidre but Cynhidre was not open in 1949, it was open in 1960 but Glynebog was open and Pentremawr near by, then when they sank Cynhidre the tunnels underground went all the way to Glynebog and Pentremawr as the tunnels spread out, all 3 pits became one. Yes, the tunnels would go under the river Gwendreath and water use to pour in, so we had pumps pumping flat out to get rid of the water. I often use to visit the pit Ponies stables underground and I remember finding a sixpenny bit there, that was a lot of money back in the 40is, so some poor miner must have lost it all those years ago,

Hello, David, nice to meet you!. Yes, I've read about the welsh group that left the Chubut (or Chupat, the original indian name) valley to go to Saskatchewan in Canada, there are documents and books that tell the story, was a departure that the remaining people in the welsh colony regretted a lot because of the diminish in the number of people and welsh speakers.
But they left the colony because of the problems with the floods caused by the Chubut river (The welsh called the river "Camwy"), they were tired of start again after the consecutives floods, and they wanted to go to a better place without this problems. There is a photo in internet of the group in the ship, I will try to find it and post for you, Are you a descendant of this emigrating welsh to Canada?. Hwyl!

Hello David,

Yes, I was forced out of Wales by the anti-kilt league : )

Seriously, my family left when my dad's mine was working short time and we moved to the centre of England so that he could work.

I left Britain of my own free will (even though the kilt was frowned upon in England) and moved to California in 1993. I've moved around the states a bit and settled here in Providence, Rhode Island four years ago. Not only did CA, OR and AZ have kilt bans, there was also a ban on playing the bagpipes : )

Even though the kilt wearing ban was lifted in Snowdonia in 1986, all the kilt wearing Prices have now fled Snowdonia - it was SO cold for no undies : )

PLEASE do not take any of this seriously ; )
