About Me:
I sing 2nd Bass with the Fron Male Voice Choir. I'm a Welsh speaker and a secondary school teacher (that's students aged 11 to 18), I started out as a woodwork teacher but I moved into ICT some ten years ago.

There’s a busy time ahead for the Choir we are releasing a single on the 15th of October with another artiste with Welsh ancestry – Rolf Harris. Rolf is re-releasing his hit from 30years ago “Two Little Boys” this coincides with a documentary he’s doing on the BBC about the First World War. On the 3rd November a DVD is being released of the Choir live in concert at the St Jude’s festival in London, and finally on the 10th of November our new album is released called “Voices of the Valley Home”.

See the Fron Male Voice Choir DVD trailer below recorded live at a concert at St Judes Church London.

Our new album Voices of the Valley Memory Lane is being released on Monday, plus We'll Meet Again with Dame Vera Lynn and the choir is being released as a single.

Is Wales or the US the land of song?

Is Wales the Land of Song?

It is a myth that all Welshmen can sing. It may have been true in days gone by but unfortunately not today. In the good old days when chapels were in the heart of every community and every village had a choir whether it was a male voice, mixed or ladies, communities would sing at a drop of a hat. If you were not in a choir then you were taught to sing in the chapel.

When I was a lad closing time for pubs meant that the men would gather under the lamppost outsi… Continue

Rolf Harris has Welsh ancestry

Rolf Harris re-records Two Little Boys to mark 90th anniversary of end of WWI

The Australian musician and artist made the new recording of the song, which dates from 1902, to mark the 90th anniversary of the end of the Great War.

It tells the story of two brothers who ride wooden horses together as little children before ending up fighting on a battlefield.

In 1969 Harris had one of his unlikely hits with the emotional song which tells of the brothers' loyalty.

It spent six weeks at n… Continue

Dear David Thomas Jones:
Thanks for your most enjoyable postings. Went to UCNW (1956-59) with a chap from Rhos (Uffar!) - studied Classics - forgot his name! Also knew a teacher in Wrexham - Margaret Ann Hughes - who was killed in a road accident a few years ago. Again - great blog site. Found out how ignorant I am about Wales after being in Canada since 1966.

All the Best

Good luck with your fourth album. I shall look forward to it when it's released. Any idea how you can create your own background like you have to your page?

David Thomas Jones from Rhosllannerchrugog---gee, I never ever woulda guessed you could be Welsh! LOL! (I hope I spelled the name of your town right--it would take me several lifetimes to learn Welsh!!!) I do wish I could speak it tho! (And I think the Welsh accent in speaking English is sooo gorgeous!!)

Your CD sounds wonderful. I think I might just have to buy it!!

Patti

P.S. Why is it that Wales is so famous for its gifted singers, and I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket?! It just ain't fair!!! ;-)

Hi David

Any chance you can put us in touch with Rolf Harris? I do an interview column in the Welsh-American newspaper Ninnau and would love to do an interview with him.. Though it would be a bit odd what with growing up watching him on tv an all!
