Hi Mona, there are loads of factors in this equation which prevent a definitive answer. Are we talking about a digital compact, DSLR or Full frame DSLR ? I assume you have increased the ISO setting to 1600 ISO ? This will allow for shooting withou...

OK Guys,, Ceri and I have chatted quickly about this and no problems at all. Keep the dimensions to 900 pixels or smaller and save as a jpeg at about quality 10. This will create a file approximately 0.3mb depending on subject matter (snow scenes ...

Hi Peter, I've just sent a question to Ceri to formalise this but he's beaten me to it. Hang fire for a minute until Ceri and I clarify a few things please! We will come back to you shortly, Cofion gorau Glyn

Valid point...I will amend the submission rules and drop the file size limitation. We were concerned last year to avoid exceeding our storage quota but that is not so much of an issue this year. We would still appreciate it however, if entrants wo...

Ceri, the rules require images of only 50kb, but the 900 pixel minimum that Glyn asked for gives a pic of about 1.5mb. Even saved as a smallish JPEG it will never reach 50k. I downloaded one nice image to check the size others were using. It was 5...

LOL! Yes, we are definitely a people separated by a common language. I had read the rules before I read your post, that is why I had a question. As you may be aware, in sections of this country (mostly the South, where I have some relatives, and a...

Annwyl Mona :-) It may be my wording - "This year I want you all to make my job much harder :-) by submitting loads of your very best images!" but this means that as a GROUP [ you all ] , you need to submit more images! :-) Sorry for any confusio...

Americymru Clarification Statement The answer is probably yes and no. You CAN post three and then decide to withdraw one or more of them. BUT you cannot post more than three per category. So....lets say you post three photographs and later decide...

Hi, I have a question--probably for Ceri, but as a result of reading Glyn's post. Glyn says to submit "loads" of photos, but the contest is limited to 3 per category, and since I don't know how to manipulate photos, I am limited to 3. So--can we ...

Thank you Glyn for he inspirational note. I was thinking I really should post a Wales picture, but I haven't been home for a couple of years. I shall see what I can manage from Barrie Ontario

Glyn- I agree with Mark Powell. Really fascinating and almost other worldly some of your photos. I wish you all the best with your exhibition in Bangor and if I lived just a little nearer I would certainly have made the effort to visit. Congratulations and pob hwyl. Gwyn Patagonia

Hi Seraffa, Many thanks for your post, always good to hear from fellow artists :-) I am opening a major show tomorrow CLICK HERE and HERE so I can't respond fully to your comments yet but I will try next week if that's OK. In terms of influences, I am very keen NOT to be influenced by anyone and I have to be honest in that I rarely go to other shows and as I am based in rural Anglesey, there are very few opportunities anyway. Ironically some of my favourite photographers are Gregory Crewdson, Loretta Lux & Yosef Koudelka but my early photo training was influenced strongly by my tutor Jem Southam, a fellow art student Damian Gillie (who is still a practising artist) and Terence Donovan. There are VERY FEW landscape photographers whose work I admire surprisingly! Cofion cynnes, Glyn

Dear Glyn - I'm lucky to have found you on here. I graduated from art school in the early 1980's in a totally different medium - painting - in which I did realistic landscapes. Today I make many journeys to the Scranton, PA area, and I do take photographs. It is in the hopes I can translate them into another medium - I have been looking towards textiles to do it - which has its own unique challenges that I have not conquered yet, I do admit. Also - Scranton has more "dark" subject than light. I would gladly find the "light" somewhere If I could study the work. Knowing how the people suffered there gives it "it's haunting" in every picture. Yet, in little glimpses of the smallest of things....I can see the pride and care given to original structures and the way they were put together. I am also a great afficionado of old New York architectural ornamentation....and want to make it another one of my themes. I don't have have any contemporaries yet for this translation into textile art. But perhaps you could encourage me? Would you also let me know who your influences are in the photography world?
