About Me:
My name is Huw Davies - a freelance actor (trading name - Ifan Huw Dafydd) living at Llantrisant, South Wales. So, yes I'm a bit of a fraud since I still live in the old country! Though I have spent some time working in New York - does that count? I earn my living working in both English and Welsh, on TV, film, radio, and theatre - wherever that will have me really.

I've also started a small production company producing travelogues of the Old Country. There's one so far called "THE LAND OF YOUR FATHERS". If you would like to learn more please visit my website.

Here's what RHYS PHILLIPS, COL, USMC (Ret.) thought of "THE LAND OF YOUR FATHERS",
"The documentary is outstanding. The photography and musical background are truly inspiring!"

Due to the demand for "THE LAND OF YOUR FATHERS", I will be bringing out another DVD soon - DAU ARWR A THRYSORAU // TWO HEROES AND TREASURES. This will have a choice of commentrary - English or Welsh. Theres a trailer for it in the video section below.

VERONICA ELLIS, New South Wales was moved to say:
"My DVD (THE LAND OF YOUR FATHERS) arrived yesterday. Oh it is beautiful. Talk about 'The longing for Wales'. I cried my heart out in the last chapter listening to the beautiful song.....Thank you for the time you obviously put into the filming of this DVD. Please put me on your mailing list for any other Wales DVD you make."

Below in the video section you'll find links to trailers for "THE LAND OF YOUR FATHERS", and " TWO HEROES AND TREASURES". I hope you'll like them - I welcome any comments or suggestions.

DIANE HOWELLS of Essex wrote:
"I was bowled over by the video I bought recently and have therefore purchased two more today! I think you have single handedly sorted a present for the people who have everything!
Years of holidays and living in various parts of Wales came flooding back."

and LUNED JAMES of Tasmania, Australia:
"DVD arrived on the 11th, thank you so much. We have already sneak previewed it - it's great. A cousin visiting from Usk had tears in his eyes and he's only been away for two weeks! Are there any more in the series?"

Margaret John Wins Lifetime Achievement Award at Welsh BAFTA

I would like to congratulate a Welsh actress and one of the lovliest ladies I know - Margaret John on being awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Welsh BAFTA ceremony. I'm not quite sure how old she is, and even if I knew I wouldn't tell! But it's not often that women of her… Continue

I'm new to blogs, so excuse the delay in a response. I live on the East coast of the US, midway between New York and Florida, in a small town called Wilmington, North Carolina.

Thank you for the welcome,

It surprises me every time, when I get all choked up hearing the language and the music of Wales. Thanks. I hope to learn Land of my Father's in the proper language.

Diolch yn fawr, Huw, for taking the time to let everyone know about Shan and her dear late husband, Justin!
She must be a fantastic singer--I haven't heard her sing yet and I'm a real big sucker when it comes to music--especially great music!
Your profile says that you are a freelance actor--then you must be familiar with Ioan Gruffudd--he and his lovely bride, Alice Evans, are living in Los Angeles now and I love his movies and i also saw his wife Alice in the Christmas Card and she did a fantastic job!
Anyway thanks again for inviting me to be your friend and of course i said yes!
Iechyd da!

Hello Huw,

Thank you for taking the time to watch clips from some of my films. We were filming "Last Tsar" in Russia in June of 1994 so we just missed you. I have Russian friends and fell in love with their culture with its poetry and dance and books. It would be great to go back, though I hear Moscow has really changed.

Re: the issues in Welcome to Wales, I'm part Irish so both sides of my family have been screwed by the British. If I lived over there, I would have to get involved with contesting these injustices. And I agree, the Welsh people need to change the name for that trophy cup. Until then, I will try and watch some of your films.

Paka,

Victoria

Hello Huw,

Just watched Welcome to Wales. Very moving. I want to follow up on stopping these injustices when I have some time. Tried to download Shan's videos but I don't have the right application as my computer is a Mac. She sounds amazing.

Thanks,

Victoria

Hello Huw,

How interesting that we are in the same biz, except you're in front of the camera and I'm behind it. When this movie that I am working on is over in early October, I want to check out your DVD's. I feel illiterate not being able to speak Welsh but hope to take lessons in the winter when things slow down. You are so lucky to live in Wales, the most beautiful country in the world! It feels like home to me there.

Cheers,

Victoria

You and Mike sold dodgy jewelry together, huh? The things we do to support our art, right?

Actually, a dramaturg is part of the production staff of a show, like the design team and director. It (along with the administrative position of Literary Manager) is basically the Research and Development side of theatre.

If I were working on a show, I would research the playwright, the play, the time the play was set in, the time the play was written in, and any other socio-economic issues that might be relevant. I also do glossaries for words and references that the actors might not be familiar with so that they know what they're talking about. The dramaturg also would do any study guides, lobby displays and program notes, as well as helping develop pre- and post-show audience discussion programs.

I could go on about the Literary Management side of the profession, but I'm guessing your eyes are pretty much glazed over by now! ;)
