I know rhe sadness of losing a loved one to pancreatic cancer. My only brother died of pancreatic cancer. He was fifty-nine years of age at death. He had just retired from teaching high school. I miss him very much. To Shan: remember the good time...

Many thanks for bringing the issue to our attention Huw. It was a pleasure to assist with this in whatever small way we could. What is more important though, is that it now looks like this monument will be properly preserved for posterity. Diolch ...

About Me:
My name is Huw Davies - a freelance actor (trading name - Ifan Huw Dafydd) living at Llantrisant, South Wales. I have spent some time working in New York. I work in both English and Welsh, on TV, film, radio, and theatre.

I also produce travelogues of Wales:

"THE LAND OF YOUR FATHERS".

And recently:

“CYMRU: DAU ARWR A THRYSORAU
WALES: TWO HEROES AND TREASURES”

This has a commentary in both Welsh and English. An invaluable resource for Welsh learners, Hear the Welsh commentary spoken by a native Welsh speaker, whilst having an English translation on the other channel.

The aim of the DVDs is to unashamedly show off the beauty of Wales, whilst at the same time giving you an insight into some of our TREASURES AND HEROES.

The Two heroes are MADOG – who discovered America, and LLYWELYN The Last Prince of Wales. The Treasures are THE GOWER, LLANDDWYN ISLAND, and TELFORD’S AQUEDUCT (World Heritage Site 2009) in Clwyd

Plus a bonus montage of photographs from around Wales set to Russell Sheppard’s beautiful rendition of MYFANWY.

Brian Thomas from Florida had this to say about "WALES: TWO HEROES AND TREASURES":
" I have just watched it and it is wonderful. Thank you very much, I had goose bumps watching it."

Final Update for Hedd Wyn and Yr Ysgwrn.

It’s time for an update!

Mr. Gareth Jones, the Assembly member for Aberconwy wrote to the Assembly’s Heritage Minister, Mr. Alun Ffred Jones. I quote from his letter:

“.....credaf fod dyfodol yr Ysgwrn yn fater o’r fath bwysigrwydd cenedlaethol fel na ddylid dibynnu ar ffynonellau fel arian y Loteri i’w gynnal.....credaf fod cartrefi fel hyn yn bethau y dylai’r Adran Dreftadaeth, trwy Cadw, sicrhau eu dyfodol.

...mi fyddwn i’n dadlau fod hanes Cymry ifanc fel Hedd Wyn a aberthwyd mor ddido

Update for: Lottery Grant refused for Upkeep of Home of a National Hero.

Almost 300 of you have signed the on line petition urging the The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to grant £50,000 for the upkeep of Hedd Wyn’s home, Yr Ysgwrn at Trawsfynydd. A huge THANK YOU to you all.

So where are we now?

What started my typing finger twitching initially was this statement in the Daily Post:

Yr Ysgwrn – dyfodol du?
(Yr Ysgwrn – a black future?)
“Dywedodd Mr Williams, sy’n 80, ei fod wedi gofyn i Cadw – y corff sy’n edrych ar ol adeiladau hynafolContinue

Hedd Wyn, His Reflection on War in the Trenches of Pilkem Ridge

RHYFEL – War

Gwae fi fy myw mewn oes mor ddreng
A Duw ar drai ar orwel pell
O’I ol mae dyn, yn deyrn a gwreng
Yn codi ei awdurdod hell.

Pan deimlodd fyned ymaith Dduw
Cyfododd gledd I ladd ei frawd
Mae swn yr ymladd ar ein clyw
A’i gysgod ar fythynod tlawd.

Lottery Grant refused for Upkeep of Home of a National Hero.

Petition link: HERE

Whilst at the National Eisteddfod a week or so ago I was told some disturbing news.

I don’t know if you’ve heard of a Private Ellis Humphrey Evans, 15th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers. He was a son of Yr Ysgwrn, a small farm on the side of a mountain by Trawsfynydd, Meirionydd.

His poem “Yr Arwr” (The Hero) won the chair at the 1917 National Eisteddfod, Birkenhead.

The Archdru… Continue

Huw, the song you have playing with Llangwm male voice just melted me away, I haven't heard this before, she has a wonderful voice and it fits well with the choir....I got to go and have a cuppa to recover now.

Huw - wow, really is a small world, I was talking to my Dad last night and mentioned your kind note, and we were amazed, of all the tiny villages in the world! I love it.... yeah, and the spelling is quite a doozey!, my non-Welsh and non-Celtic friends have raised an eyebrow at that name, too....

You know, I've only been to Penisarwaun once... it was the third Sunday in March, 2005 (just days after Wales sealed the Grand-Slam v. Ireland!), one of the best, but most emotional days in my life... when I took a picture of Dad in front of St. Helen's (where my forefathers undoubtedly worshipped), i could scarcely hold the camera still, trembling with tears and mixed emotions...it's hard even now.... i laughed driving on the road out of town (straight to a pub in Caernarfon, if i'm being honest), that I felt like 'Sean Thornton' having just arrived for the first time in 'Innisfree' (from 1952's 'Quiet Man' of course!).... i'll take my sons ('Evan' and 'Owen Glyndwr') there some day, when they're ready.

I've selfishly rambled on long enough, sorry.... it's just here in California, I doubt exactly regularly get to converse with a gentleman such as you, about such things as 'Penisarwuan'..... Thanks, Huw!...

anyway, how are you this fine day? how's all in the homeland?

take care,
diolch and hwyl,
William

Huw - thanks for your note...actually, it was my grandfather Evan Ellis Parry, and his father (my great grandfather) of the same name who are from there.... but are long since gone. My Granddad emigrated to the USA on July 17, 1909 at the age of 17; some years later (once settled in America) he brought his parents over. He was an only child.... I have no known relative back there, but saw many headstone's at St. Helen's (?) bearing the 'Parry' name... maybe related? I don't know.... I'd be honored to hear any stories or names of friends you have/had there?

thanks,
William

ps - notice the tattoo in this pic bearing the "Parry" family crest...my wife HATES the tatt and this pic!
