Unless you have lived in a coal mining area when ' coal was king ' you cannot appreciate the blackness and dust that people had to live in.

Ye Ian, that looks like the TA Corps of Drums of The Royal Welsh, an amalgamation of the old 1st Bn Royal Welch Fusiliers (taditionally Northern, my backgound) and 1st Bn Royal Regt Of Wales (Southern recruited but there always was a mix and crossover), now both Royal Welsh.
Their TA band is excellent. A mix of ex regs and out n out civi musicians, they always do the Milenium stadium and do us proud, and nearly all of them by now have done at leadt one tour of duty in Iraq or Afgan as medics or drivers or indeed as infanteers, tholooking at the bellies of some of them, probably not them haha
Good pic Ian thanks

Hi Ian
I just wanted to say your photos has brought back many a happy memory for me. I spent many a saturday night walking back to my friends in Cwmparc after a few sherberts in the Lion with a bag of chips from the station fish bar!

Nice one...cheers mate...I'll start tomorrow....just generic tags,,,rhondda, wales etc...whatever will make them more searchable and then I'll add a comment with a link to treorchy.net to each one...that link will be more prominent than the one in the right column and more likely to generate traffic to your site...after Ive done that I'll push your photo page on Stumbleupon and elsewhere which should also help a bit....Diolch.

Hi Ian...these photos are fantastic...wondered if you'd mind if we tagged them to make them more easily searchable...of course we'd add a link to your website on each page...also I havent forgotten about adding links on the static site...just havent had time to work on it for a while...will get around to it soon tho.

Hi Ian...I was looking for some Gwyn Thomas on Google Library search...unfortunately theres no full view stuff available, so I guess its all still under copyright, otherwise I would have added him to the Americymru library.

Thanks Tam . I have hundreds of them. I'll put some more up from time to time. Because of our site I spend a great deal of time walking the hills around this village and the other villages in the Upper Rhondda Fawr. Some others I took can be seen on Treorchy.net's photo page. There are also some more on our other site www.treherbert.info.

Hi Ian...sorry I didnt see your comment on this page till now. best thing is to use the comment back function, that way your comment ends up on the recipients page. Things are pretty good here. Hows it in sunny Treorchy?

Sut mae?

What's it like in the land of the free these days? I haven't been there since 1975. My family are congregrated around Harrisburg Pennsylvania; the coalmines and poverty called them.

I remember the place ( America ) as being very big - as opposed to Wales I mean.
