It's nineteen thirty five again. Or is it fifty three? It could be five past seven. Time's troublesome to me. To win again? It's not to late. The Blacks are back. But not too great. Let's hope its not a seventy eight Remember Andy Haden.

Today, Halloween seems all about plastic pumpkins and trick or treating. But the festival has deep religious roots. Originally, the end of October was marked by Samhain, when the Celts celebrated the end of summer and beginning of winter. "Like ...

DRAGONS V PUMAS

The local press had tagged this baby as being a war of the scrums; Kursk, Stalingrad and the worst excesses of the siege of Carthage would pale in comparison to the atrocities that were expected in the front row. The reality was somewhat more mundane. There seems to have been an outbreak of dropsy for the early part of the game and the Puma's managed to get ball back without their hooker doing anything - a minor miracle in itself.

Wales joined the dropsy brigade for most of the first half until… Continue

WALES V NEW ZEALAND

Forever to be known as the match this was as flat as several miles of linoleum, Wales were worse than indifferent. The All Blacks were poor but it was nothing compared to the Taff. Fantastically inept they threw away a chance to beat the opposition for the first time in er 56 years. Reputations - such as they were - were ruined.

Red and Black

The All Blacks are here.

1978 is in the air and hyperbole runneth high; the ghost of Andy Haden throws his misbegotten soul out of the lineout once again.

But it is the nature of man is to forgive ( tempting Von Clauswitz's assertion that "To forget history is to be condemned to relive it.") and so we trudge to Cardiff in our droves in the hope eternal of a 'fair' game.

Oceans of booze will be consumed before we reach Tonypandy and much merriment will ensue with the usual pessimistic murmurin… Continue

Defying logic.

Here's something you may have missed. Ferndale is a small village in thr Rhondda Fach. It is an a typical Welsh mining village with a history of coalmining. The local council decided to commemorate and celebrate the village's past by erecting a statue in bronze. Of what I hear you ask. A miner and his family? Winding gear or some other mining paraphenalia? That would be too easy. So they decided to erect a statue of a bronze cow. Yes that's right - a bronze cow.

well just so happened I just got back yesterday from England & Wales! Twice I was asked for directions to some truly obscure-sounding place. I think my brother and I look more like the people in North Wales with the long space between nose and lips, where in south Wales, the people looked more British with long face shapes or less British with darker complexions. I havent gotten around to inserting a photo in place of this daffodil. But I do have to say that the Welsh there are truly friendly, gregarious, very talkative, very curious and good natured people, if they spoke English, where apparently some near Betws-y-Coed preferred not to speak English. I can easily drop various members of my family in upstate NY into different locations(back room of pub, working at petrol station, etc) and they would fit right into the background! Thanks for your question, we manage to wear red, white & blue everyday somewhere and in my family not over the zippers.

Hi - I may have put the answer to your question on another part of the site. My Welsh people were from Breconshire, South Wales and Llanbrynmair.

Richard W. Jones and Mary Williams Jones were from Breconshire, South Wales. They came over in 1853. Richard was known as Cymro Cloff, or sometimes the Lame Poet. The Breezes came from Llanbrynmair, who lost half its population in the mid 1800's. They came over in 1847. Their family farm in Wales was Cwmcalch and was near Yr Hen Chapel. The families lived next door to each other in Waukesha County. Later, the children that were born on the same day and delivered by the same midwife were married. The Powells and Dodds came from Abergavenny. Back in the day, (1851) a marriage between English and Welsh was very unusual. This couple's families lived across the river from each other. One family was Welsh and lived in England, the other was English and lived in Wales.
