Thanks Gaabi. I used one of my dad's handkerchiefs and a little elastic. It was a new hanky! My dad passed in 2001 so she never knew him. I thought that would kinda of connect them. (make sense?) LOL

Traditional Welsh Costume

I would like to thank all of those who emailed me with information about where I could get a Traditional Welsh Costume to wear in the upcoming St. Pat's parade, and other events that the A.W.A. participated. I ended up making my own which surprisingly wasn't too difficult nor costly. Here is the end result, plus I had enough material to make one for my niece. Thanks for all the input!

The Legend of the Welsh Caves at DeSoto Falls

Hello to all my friends!

I've been AWOL of late and do apologize but its that typical summer weather that has a grip on me. I can say that I have a nice tan these days, and have been outdoors alot enjoying this wonderful Alabama sunshine. I've have worked on a book or booklet (if you will) for a few months, and feel fairly comfortable with it now. I used lulu.com for self-publication of it. It is about the welsh caves at DeSoto Falls park which includes Alot of pictures from when we were there… Continue

Madoc Plaque to be RESTORED!

I am happy to announce the restoration of the Prince Madoc Plaque which was dedicated by the Virginia Cavalier Chapter of the D.A.R in Mobile, AL in 1953. It was originally placed on Mobile Bay near Ft. Morgan. Several years ago it was removed by a staff member of Ft. Morgan for reasons unknown and placed in storage at Ft. Morgan. (There have been so many different rumored reasons, that we do not know which one is true!) In March of this year the Alabama Welsh Association requested the Alabama H… Continue

Hi Janice, Hope everything is fine down there.
My aunt, the one who lives in Mochdre, went to Odstone the other night, with her friend Margaret.
They said the bottom level of the house is derelict, but there were lights on above. Figure people are squatting there. Cool spot to squat!
They called out and made noise to get attention, but nobody bothered, so they poked about in the garden by themselves.
The plaque is placed in a rockery, which wasn't to be found, so not sure what's going on there, if someone removed it, or changed the garden's appearance.
I hope, if she gets a chance, she'll go back and have another look. She's in a never ending battle with the Big C, thanks to Chernobyl. Right now, anything that can give her another focus, off her medical treatment, is a bonus. Sorry, don't want to drop that stuff on your lap, but she may not get to do things so easily for a while. Still, she's a game girl and won't give up! Cymru am byth.

Hello Janice,
With you on the warmth thing. Reason to living on the West Coast: more temperate than the rest of the country. Dry in summer, wetter in winter.
A few years ago we were in Florida for the F.O.W. Wanted to bring the weather back with me as a souvenir! Got used to the humidity surprisingly fast. Ocean keeps the air moving, I think. It just pushes up from the Gulf and sits over eastern Canada. Immobile and thick... disgusting!
Coming back to Canada, after living in Mobile, my husband asked his mother if they could go back to the summer! I'm guessing the eternal cold had showed up! One of these days we'll have to check it out. Heard the Mardi Gras is older and better than New Orleans'.
Hopefully my aunt will be well enough to get to Odstone and she and her friend can make nuisances of themselves with the home owners! Fingers crossed all 'round for her right now.
Take care Janice. Tell the Tresaith Corgi folks, their property is right up my street... not literally! Love it. Reminds me of home, so can see why they settled. Chatted enough. Must be from Wales... Cymru am byth.

Hello Janice!
Diolch/thanks am y/for the croeso/welcome. Your good work for the plaque restoration hasn't gone unnoticed. Last week, my aunt back in the home village, sent me the article from the Pioneer. She also said she's going with a friend to Rhos, to see Odstone and take a photo of the plaque that's placed there. She may have to ask permission from the owners, but since we've got the connection to Madog on both sides of the Atlantic, I think the impetus is there and not to take "no" for an answer! Or simply because we're bloody minded Welsh!
How's the weather in Alabama? My husband remembers the sultry warmth from his childhood, which he missed when they returned to Canada. Summer is like that up there, but winter is brutal. Two, too extreme.
Pob hwyl at ti ac yr aelodau AWA.
