About Me:
I am a welsh speaker living in Wales, I live in the county of Bridgend in the southern region of Wales (am originally from the Rhondda valleys). I am lucky to live near the sea & have 2 castles within less than 5 miles of my home (that's my ideal place on sunny days). I have family in Maine, Florida & Hawaii & would like to make new freindships and find out more about the american/welsh culture.

I am a bookworm I love reading historical books, biographies and about local history. I enjoy spending time with friends & family and regularly meet up with both.

I also love spending time with Demsey the family dog.. he loves taking me for walks and being spoiled.

I have a varied taste in music ranging from Groups such as the Doors Clannad Enigma Steriophonics and the B 52's - I also like music such as Otis reading Billie Holiday and chill out.....

I am also a registered nurse currently working as a nurse specialist with older people within the community and would be grateful to hear from any registered nurses who maybe members of this site as I would also like to learn more about US healthcare .

I apparently missed greeting you when you first came to this site, so allow me to correct that unintentional oversight now: Hail and well met! Welcome to Americymru, soon to be your favorite website! Hopefully :-) Check out the various interest groups, and the videos and music... wonderful stuff. And there are a lot of nice people here too. Hope you like what you find! Blessings to you this day.

I can't wait to get back to Wales--reading about it here makes that NEED even stronger.
We have a Welsh pub near here named Peint o Gwrw--and a bunch of us are on our way there tomorrow night to celebrate Owain Glyndwr. I have my draig goch sunglasses and a welsh flag tattoo so I'm ready to go!

Glad to hear about the pub and the bar food! We will definitely visit that area as well as the church; I'm even wondering if it would be possible for my husband and me to renew our vows there. (It will be our 30th anniversary.) Yep, I've gotten census records from Ancestry.com as far back as 1841. Very interesting stuff!

Hi,
My oldest uncle was born in Bridgend in 1902. My husband and I plan to visit Wales again in 2010, and I'm going to look up the addresses I have of places where my ancestors lived, going back to 1841. My grandparents were married in 1901 at a church called Llangynwyd, which I believe is just a little ways north of Bridgend. :)

i'm very lucky in that my local welsh society hosts classes--about 20 minutes from where i live! several years ago i took the beginner's class and soon joined the intermediate class. i did attend cwrs cymraeg when it was held in ottawa, canada and last year our group hosted it here. Robert Jones--he's on americymru--teaches our local class--he's fluent in welsh. he also occasionally teaches welsh at the college where he is a professor--i was lucky enough to be able to take his class in the spring. I'm a very fast learner--but also a very fast forgetter!!!

Oh what a wondrous welsh web we weave!!!. I just spoke to my brother, Ronnie, he knows Glyn very well and meets up with him once a week. Many years ago, it was Glyn that brought him the news that our mother had died. Mae'r byd yn hynod o fach. How do you know Glyn?
