Hi Mike, I'm a researcher in South Wales folklore. I came across your request today, and I have contacts in welsh music. Do you know Sian Thomas, director of trac, the all-Wales folk development organisation? If it still exists, Sian's bound to have…

Diolch, Ian - I meant January 3, 2010. That NZ Sauvignon Blanc really is knockout stuff, isn't it? Just to confirm: my celebratory 60th birthday, Sunday January 3rd, 2010, The Boar's Head - all welcome/Croeso i bawb.

As both the Welsh & Bretons are the same Southern Britons with the same Saints, heroes, folk-tales, and formerly, language, share the same National Anthem, and that I live here, I thought that I would make room for them.

Hi, all you 19 members, I would like to invite you to celebrate my SPECIAL super-dooper 60th birthday on January 3rd, 2009, in The Boar's Head, Tyle Garw (just 100 yards from the Llantrisant West level crossing.) Landlord Wayne Owen will serve up a…

Hi Tam, If you're interested in the R.A.T.S, then try viewing their website at http://www.rats-nest.co.uk/RATS-SITE-3/HOMEPAGE.html - you could ask Dave if you could be an honorary R.A.T.! Mick

I called in to The Boar's Head late in the afternoon (Wilkie was there!) and ever-smiling Wayne was just setting up the beer barrels. He's invited all the R.A.T.S down for the festival. Dave (the Sec-RAT-ary) thinks it's his birthday - in fact it IS…

The Fishguard Arms went years ago. I have a very hazy memory of it - blue fascia? I can't even remember in which part of Cardiff it stood.

The Old Arcade was fondly remembered as a jazz pub. Cardiffians of every note used to flock there. If fact, Frank Hennessy, in his love song to Cardiff called Always Beautiful, mentions the pub.

Mick, is this tune the same as your Llancesau Drefaldwyn? This is the only score I've found with this name.

By the way, I hear that Wayne has invited you lot of rapscallions (RATS) to the beer festival 11-12 next month at the Boars Head. Sure to see you there!

Croeso Mick. Being the folk music type, I wonder if you know the jig called Maids of Montgomery. My Irish fiddle teacher tells me that the Welsh version of the jig that I found online is not the proper tune, and that there is a different Irish jig called the Maids of Montgomery (she's a bit chauvinistic with Irish music). I'd like to compare but can't find examples online. Have you heard of it?

hwyl,
Peter

Hi Mick .... Portland Oregon here. Originally from Cardiff. Croeso i Americymru. Gaabriel and I created this site less than a year ago as a Social and friendship site for the Welsh, Welsh ex-pats, persons of Welsh descent and Cymruphiles around the world. It has grown considerably since its foundation and we would like to extend a warm welcome to you....our latest member. Feel free to invite any friends that you think would be interested in joining. The network has many features which allow people with a shared love of Wales to communicate and share photos, videos, links, blogposts etc and we will be adding new features from time to time. Make yourself right at home. Once again...
