I've lived in Wales for nearly 20 years, following a job offer at a newspaper based in Cardiff. It's now home, because I've lived her longer than I've lived anywhere else!

a month in a castle

What every writer dreams of, a beautiful space to write uninterrupted, and a small community of like-minded people to share ideas, inspirations, thoughts and dreams. This is what was on offer at Hawthornden Castle in Scotland, where I've just spent the past month as a Fellow. At times, I felt like I was walking around on a film set, or had woken up in inside a novel by Sir Walter Scott. Hawthornden is built on a craggy rockface above the River Esk, its foundations a web of caves once the home of… Continue

Maggie's Studio

Walking into a white, light studio filled with paintings that layer real landscape with imagined places, or remembered places is quite an experience. Maggie's studio is part of the Bay Art complex in what was Cardiff's old docklands. The building is a warren of studios, reached by original staircases with worn stone steps and decorative railings. I rented its studio flat for a month to complete my novel The Banquet of Esther Rosenbaum. Now, I'm seeing it from the artist's point of view.

Hi Penny...Portland Oregon here. Originally from Cardiff. Croeso i Americymru. Gaabriel and I created this site less than a year ago as a Social and friendship site for the Welsh, Welsh ex-pats and persons of Welsh descent around the world. It has grown considerably since its foundation and we would like to extend a warm welcome to you....our latest member. Feel free to invite any friends that you think would be interested in joining. The network has many features which allow people with a shared love of Wales to communicate and share photos, videos, links, blogposts etc and we will be adding new features from time to time. Make yourself right at home. Once again...

Croeso!

Hello and welcome, Penny! I live in Portland, Oregon, USA, with Ceri, am one of the site creators. Please let us know if you think of anything that would make this site more useful, more interesting or more fun. I'd love to hear more about your job for the opera and the opera company itself and I'm looking forward to getting my hands on a copy of "The Banquet of Esther Rosenbaum." Your site also looks nice, did you do it or did someone do it for you? Do you also code or create content like multimedia?
