About Me:
Peter Thabit Jones is the author of nine collections of poetry and one collection of short stories. His latest book of poems, THE LIZARD CATCHERS, was published by Cross-Cultural Communications, New York. His poem Kilvey Hill was incorporated into a permanent stained-glass window by the leading Welsh artist Catrin Jones in the new Saint Thomas School, Swansea, in 2007. He toured America, with Aeronwy Thomas, Dylan Thomas's daughter, for six weeks in March 2008, giving readings, talks and workshops from New York to California. The tour was organised by his publisher Stanley H. Barkan of Cross-Cultural Communications, New York, in conjunction with Vince Clemente. He has lectured Literature and Creative Writing for the Adult Education Department at Swansea University for fifteen years.

His work has been published in books from publishers such as Penguin Books, Oxford University Press, Heinemann Centaur (South Africa), and Titul Publishers/British Council, Moscow (Russia). The latter was a major educational project to teach English to secondary school children throughout Russia. It has also been featured on British television and American television, BBC radio, and educational cassettes and cds from the BBC, Scholastic Publications and Macmillan Educational. He is the recipient of several awards, including the Eric Gregory Award for Poetry (The Society of Authors, London), and an Arts Council of Wales Award (Wales).

The founder and editor of THE SEVENTH QUARRY, an international poetry magazine, his poems have been translated into eighteen languages, including Russian, Hebrew and Japanese. He is included in THE NEW COMPANION TO THE LITERATURE OF WALES, the Literature chapters of two history books on Swansea, a book on Dylan Thomas’s Swansea, and numerous Who’s Who of Poetry books.

His long correspondence with Vince Clemente, American poet, biographer and Emeritus Professor of English New York University, is deposited, along with their poem manuscripts and their books, in THE VINCE CLEMENTE PAPERS Archive in Rochester University, New York.

He has written (with Aeronwy Thomas, Dylan Thomas’s daughter) the first-ever WALKING GUIDE OF DYLAN THOMAS’S GREENWICH VILLAGE, NEW YORK (2008) for the Wales International Centre, New York and the Welsh Assembly Government.

In April 2009 he was visiting poet at the World Affairs Conference in Colorado, America. In May 2009 he returned to do a poetry reading tour of New York, as the guest of Professor Sultan Catto of CUNY, The Graduate Center, New York and his American publisher Stanley H. Barkan, who published Peter’s The Lizard Catchers in 2006. Whilst in New York Peter was filmed narrating the WALKING GUIDE OF DYLAN THOMAS’S GREENWICH VILLAGE, NEW YORK for a forthcoming dvd to be produced by Cross-Cultural Communication, New York.

In 2010 he will visit America, Catalonia and Chile. He has just been appointed the organizer in Wales for a new Creative Writing/Cultural project with Knox College, America, the Carl Sandburg Birthplace, America, Cross-Cultural Communications, America, the Wales International Center, America, and his magazine The Seventh Quarry. The project is called Dylan Thomas in Wales/American Students Visiting Programme, which will be launched in 2010.
