TV Video of our Dachshund winning her race!

' />

Hi,
Here is TV news footage from July 26, 2008, when our dachshund, Snuggles, won the Puppy Division of the Dachshund Races at GermanFest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She got a blue ribbon and a bunch of doggie prizes!

It starts off with our Pipsqueak (black and tan longhaired doxie) barking at the interviewer (those are my husband Len's legs!) and shows Snuggles winning and getting her ribbon! Snuggles was the only mostly-white dog running. She is a black and tan piebald doxie. We really got a lot of coverage that day!

Pit Pony Sanctuary, Pontypridd, Wales

' />

Hi,

I visited here last May, after our local Cambrian Heritage Society raised about $500 for the pit ponies. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Peckham, who run the farm and care for the horses (not all are pit ponies now, but all have been rescued) were very hospitable, se… Continue

Christmas card request

I went out to Briceville, TN, last Thursday when I was in Tennessee and met the wonderful librarian. Briceville is a very depressed area--it was settled by Welsh coal miners and was a real boom town in its day--now it is what you think of when you hear "Appalachia". The mine is still working, but just laid off a bunch more folks.

Anyway, the librarian works very hard to help the children keep reading and provides school supplies, etc., that they can just come in and take when they need them.

I… Continue

In your face Welsh car magnets!

Hi,
I have about a half dozen of these great magnets and am willing to part with them for $10, which includes US shipping. I have one on my car and get lots of (positive) comments on it. They are approx. 8 x 10 inches. Email me if you want one (or more) and I will send you my address. I… Continue

Hi Mona,

To start with, the Eisteddfod was a wonderfully satisfying experience. I am not a Welsh speaker, so lost some of detail, but the atmosphere was so encompassing I never felt as an outsider. I found the people attending to be friendly, helpful and curteous. I can give you some specific recommendations if you want, via PM. Be sure to visit the Wales International (Udeb Cymru u'r Byd) booth, it's a good place to find contacts.

Our canal trip was great, but it rained most of the time thereby limiting our excursions. My wife has had double hip replacement, so is somewhat limited in mobility. It takes two people to maneuver in the locks, that is the limiting factor. If I were to do it over, I would not spend an entire week on the canal, I think 3-4 days would work wonderfully.

The stone site is at Pen Y Cae, Powys and not far from Ebbw Vale. It is not promoted as a ritual site, rather the Showplace Caves are promoted. I'm still digging for an authoratative discussion on the stones. It is a part of the Celtic culture kept under wraps.

This was my second trip, the first being in 1960. My father and his family came to this country as a result of the strikes and mine closures. He remained bitter about it his whole life and never discussed the family he left behind. My sister and I started to look for roots and have been rewarded by finding a place to call our ancestral home.

I am a retired Naval Officer who has visited hundreds of cities and countries, but I have never felt so much at home as in Wales. I was told that Wales welcomes it's own.

Hope you got the last message, Of course I'm not offended it's my memory that's flagging, substituting the name Henry for William etc it's all nonsense really, mind you Twm for Sion Quilt was a genuine misunderstanding from years back! How far are you from Turtle lake?

No 'Offa the dyke' I live 200 yards from the ancient border 'Offa's Dyke' between Wales and Mercia (shropshire) Offa was a Mercian king of about 1300 years ago who built a barrier between his kingdom and Wales. There is no pun etc intended whatsoever.

Just trying to keep it going, a very quiet Friday here on the borders of north east Wales, but the weather is good and autumn is only just about getting underway. What better activity when online than adding to the three worders then?
