BTW, I had to think a bit about your question about Ferndale, since the Canadian border is 12 miles north of here. But yes, you're right, since the border angles to the south out in the islands, and the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island is some forty-odd miles to the southwest.
Thanks for the link to your photos. They brought back a lot of memories. The one of Rhossili Bay reminded me of my visit to the Gower in 1987 to look up some distant cousines.
Gwych!!, Thank you gaabi!, the cake looks very tasty with those big strawberries, maybe too much candles for my age, hahaha. I will invite my friends and relatives, but will keep two or three portions for myself!.
I think I pressed a wrong button so there may be a partial version of this but I will start over again. I just joined the St. David's Welsh Society of the Capital District and agreed to serve on its Board. I am not its president, at least not yet. I also don't have any fluency in Welsh. I am president of the Arnold Lake Owners Association and Treasurer for my church but I don't think that's what you were alluding to since I had not mentioned either of those responsibilities.
Hi Gaabi. For more on the opera visit www.wno.org.uk or www.twitter.com/Opera24 - the first ever bilingual Twitter, live from backstage at WNO! We're running another out on tour on Weds 25 March.
Thanks Gaabi, I was actually going to be named Barry John after the Welsh rugby player but just happened to be the first boy born on St. David's day in St. David's hospital in Bangor....thank the good lord ;)
Thanks for your lovely message. I will definitely take full advantage of your brilliant website ... It's good to see someone's finally taken the steps to set up a site like this!
Oh I didn't do it all the pieces for the map! I used an API called ModestMaps. It can use map tiles from several of the top map providers. I did all of the other stuff like buttons, tooltips, the list, and hooked it all up. I load up a separate XML file to populate the list, which is pretty handy for updating list information. That was enough of a job!
Next I should try using Flash for the usual banner animation stuff. I've been known to do things backwards!
The site is great! The only thing I would say is to make it less "busy". There are sooo many great resources here that it is sometimes hard to know where to look and click!
I have several Welsh genealogy resources that have not been widely documented. However, it will take me some time to get things together. I have too many pots in the fire and kettles on the stove!
I am not a member of any local in-person Welsh society, but I am a new member of the Welsh-American Genealogical Society (WAGS) run out of Vermont.
I've never taken classes in any of these web programming languages; I've learned them on my own, which I acknowledge can be difficult and frustrating at times. I really should go for classes. My programming background is in Assembly and then later in C. But, I can't stop moving and have embraced the higher level web languages! My first Flash/AS3 project (finished not long ago) was not the usual animation type thing, it was a google-type map deal: http://iagenweb.org/iowa/cem/map.htm. It was really quite a lot of work for a first project, but I need a challenge to keep interested.
I am also one of the two IT/tech support people for iagenweb.org, so I have done quite a lot of BASHing myself. When you can SSH into a server, there is so much that can be done! I also designed that state site, but I am not happy with it's organization; needs work.
